Thailand’s Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) – effectively Thailand’s de facto digital nomad visa –is a newly introduced long-term visa that supports a broad range of lifestyle travelers. Unlike traditional tourist visas, the DTV is designed for those who want to stay longer, work remotely, or engage in meaningful activities such as cultural learning, wellness, or training in Thai soft power fields.

Launched in 2024, the DTV reflects Thailand’s commitment to becoming a hub for digital nomads, long-stay travelers, and international visitors seeking more than a holiday.

Visa Details

  • Validity: 5 years
  • Duration of Stay: 180 days per entry
  • Extension: One additional 180-day stay (total of 360 days max per stay)
  • Multiple Entry: Yes
  • Fee: 10,000 THB

Categories in Focus

1. Workcation in Thailand

If you're working remotely and looking for a refreshing change of scenery, the DTV allows you to legally live and work online in Thailand for up to a year. You can base yourself in Chiang Mai’s coworking cafés, Bangkok’s business hubs, or by the beach in Krabi or Koh Samui—all while keeping your overseas job.

You’ll need to show proof of:

  • Remote employment or freelance contracts
  • Sufficient funds (minimum 500,000 THB in savings)
  • Health insurance valid in Thailand

This is perfect for remote professionals who want a mix of productivity and tropical lifestyle—without constantly having to do visa runs.

2. Thai Soft Power & Cultural Activities

Thailand also welcomes applicants who want to experience and promote Thai soft power—meaning the nation’s unique cultural exports and wellness offerings. These include:

  • Muay Thai training at certified gyms or schools
  • Thai culinary programs, such as cooking schools or chef training
  • Medical treatments

This makes the DTV ideal not just for workers, but also for learners, cultural explorers, and those pursuing personal development in a Thai context.

To qualify under this category, applicants must show:

  • Proof of enrollment in a recognized program or facility
  • Financial stability (500,000 THB or equivalent)
  • Health insurance coverage for the duration of stay

Application Requirements

To apply for the DTV, you must:

  • Be at least 20 years old
  • Show proof of at least 500,000 THB in savings
  • Submit documents relevant to your intended activity (e.g., work contracts, program enrollment, medical treatment booking)
  • Hold valid health insurance that covers your stay
  • Apply via the Thai eVisa website or at a Thai consulate

Spouse and children under 20 can be accompanied.

Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

Thailand is also phasing in a Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) to simplify the immigration process. Instead of filling out the old TM6 paper form, travelers can now complete their arrival information online before flying. This makes for a smoother and faster entry at the airport—especially helpful for long-stay visitors like DTV holders.

This means you need to fill out the digital form within 3 days before your entry to Thailand, and get a confirmation by email which you need to show at the immigration.

Whether you're a remote worker looking for a workcation, a wellness seeker, or a cultural explorer, Thailand’s Destination Thailand Visa gives you a legal and flexible way to stay longer and dive deeper into the Thai way of life. With beautiful scenery, friendly communities, fast internet, and world-class cuisine and healthcare, Thailand remains one of the best choices for living and working abroad.
