Description
Many theories point to Baler as the birthplace of Philippine surfing - surprisingly not thanks to Aussie locals venturing the world looking for new spots to discover, though. This was all thanks to Francis Ford Coppola, who chose the quiet coastal town as his setting for some scenes in the classic film Apocalypse Now.
But whether or not the first wave in the Philippines was ridden in Baler, the town’s incredible beach breaks make it a must-visit. If you’re an advanced surfer, the fast reef breaks will surely get your heart pumping.
The idyllic town of Baler captures the quaint surf town charm many surfers are looking for. Perhaps this is why a lot of city dwellers now call it their home.
